"The difficult we do immediately. The
imposssible takes a bit longer."
Welcome
to the 181st Seabee Battalion, United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps.
The Benevolent
and Protective Order of Elks of The United States of America Lodge 272 is our sponsor. The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) is a federally sponsored nationwide youth association.
The 181st Battalion currently
consists of a unit of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps, (NSCC) The NSCC is for young people between the ages of 13 through 17. We
also have a NAVY LEAGUE CADET CORPS Platoon for young people age 10 1/2 to 13.
181st Battalion has cadet openings
for the current academic year for young people who have ambition, self-discipline, and a strong academic background.
In addition to learning about the four sea services and the long maritime tradition of the United States, Sea Cadet training
provides Cadets with a solid foundation for building academic and social skills, teamwork, and critical thinking.
The 181st Seabee Battalion meets
at the Elks Lodge and Massachusetts National Guard Armory, Pittsfield MA. Our unit’s Officers and Instructor staff is made up of Veterans and professional
people in medicine, public safety and business. We currently have openings for the Officer Corps also.
The goals of our unit
include:
- Developing an appreciation for Naval History, traditions and customs and their role in national defense.
- Developing a sense of pride in our nation, positive qualities of patriotism, courage and self-reliance, confidence
and strong moral character and good citizenship traits.
- Developing an interest and skill in seamanship and seagoing
and aviation subjects.
- Increasing the advancement potential of cadets who may
later elect to serve in the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or Merchant Marine.
- Maintaining a Drug, Alcohol and Gang Free environment
A medical examination similar to a high school sports physical is required for all cadet applicants to the Naval Sea Cadet
Corps (NSCC) or Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC). No one will be denied admission to the NSCC/NLCC due to a medical disability.
Where a medical condition precludes full, unlimited participation, a Request for Accommodation (NSCADM 015) may be presented
by the parent or guardian for review so the cadet may participate in NSCC activities to the maximum extent possible.
Adult applicants must be in good health commensurate with their age group and be free from any ailment or condition that
would prevent them from satisfactorily performing their primary duty of supervising youth. NOTE: Adults not physically qualified
to perform all duties may still participate with a waiver from NHQ considering the parameters of their expected contribution
to the NSCC.
